Description:  It starts off seriously enough, with three thugs robbing an innocent young woman at night in the city, but then switches to Vin Saxon and Carolyn Brandt doing a goofy Elvis-like rock ‘n roll number (very charming though). The next day the thugs are bored. Picking a name at random out of the phone book, they decide to terrorize Carolyn Brandt. After some campy dramatic scenes, she is kidnapped by the goons. They decide to ransom her. After receiving the ransom call, Vin Saxon and the good-natured, but not- to-bright gardener sit around despondent, wondering what to do. “There’s only one thing to do!” exclaims Vin. The two rush off into the next room and become the costumed heroes Rat Pfink and Boo Boo.

The RL community rocks. Fantômas se déchaîne, I say.

This film was originally going to be called “The Depraved”, and was inspired by phonecalls the director’s wife (Carolyn Brandt, the film’s female lead) used to get from a creepy stalker who knew which shops she’d just been to and what she was wearing. It was going to be a gritty thriller along the lines of “Taken”, and it does indeed begin by portraying its villains as vicious psychopaths who aren’t funny in the least. Then halfway through with no warning at all that incredible nonsense on the poster happens!

Apparently Ray Dennis Steckler was writing the script as he went along, and one day he hit a writer’s block becase he had absolutely no idea how these two wimps were going to rescue the girl and asked for suggestions from the cast and crew. Somebody said “What if they went in that cupboard and came out as Batman and Robin?”, presumably as a joke, but Steckler thought it was a great idea, and suddenly the film was a slapstick comedy.

From that point on it was a case of anything goes, including appearances by various characters from another even cheaper and even more chaotic movie Steckler was making simultaneously called “The Lemon Grove Kids Meet the Monsters”, hence the finale in which the less-than-dynamic duo battle a shabby furball billed as “Kogar the Swinging Gorilla”.

Male lead Vin Saxon (real name Ron Haydock) attempted to become a real-life rock star under various names, including Lonnie Lord, the name of his character in this movie. You can hear what Ron Haydock and the Boppers sounded like on a CD compilation of everything they ever recorded called “99 Chicks”. Alas, he never quite made it. He was fatally hit by a truck in 1977.
