This is a surprisingly good movie. That is, interesting. Forgive everything else to it, it’s interesting. If I’m to box things, there was a strain of such low-budget but revelatory movies through the 80s and to the mid 90s: “Radioactive dreams,” “Knight Rider 2010” – I think it was 2010… Well, others will know more. Each of these is bright in its own way and a step out of this banal, hopeless dead end place we find ourselves in as a species.
I cannot but agree. I expected some kind of laughable post-apo / sword and sorcery movie, but I was really surprised: they – against all odds – managed to mix these two genres really well, and several parts of the movie really have a unique soul and artistic direction. It is also at times satirical (about the decadence of the ancient world with the vampires, and about the blindness of political ideology and religion with Godan), really worth watching!
For temnix, you are thinking of Romero’s Knightriders (1981) which is an absolute hidden gem. I didn’t know Radioactive Dreams, I’ll check this one out…
