Mimi Rogers had a host of good films that went direct to video and nobody ever saw. This is one of them and Reflections on a Crime was another.
It didn’t exactly set the box office on fire, but the Rapture definitely was not a direct-to-video film. I saw it at the Seven Gables Theater in Seattle during it’s initial release.
This was an AWESOME movie. It’s one of those movie that reads exactly opposite to different people. If you are a fundamentalist Christian, you might watch this movie and think “Wow, a great movie that treats the Rapture absolute seriously and as described in the bible” and if you were a rationalist you might think “Wow, a great movie that shows what a deteriorating mind actually imagines seeing while her world collapses around her.”
You really can read it either way. I love this movie
I’ve always found Mimi Rogers fascinating. The fact that she was older than Tom Cruise, I thought of her as a ‘milf’ before milf was even a concept or a word.

First, I’ve never seen a movie where the sex was so depressing. Second, having been raised in a life destructive cult (Jehovah’s Witness) I loved the theological/ethical/personal quandary the main character has to deal with. It can be tough when ‘belief’ meets reality. And to end up in purgatory demanding answers from God…. priceless! Thanks Lusty:)
