Michelle Pfeiffer, Fran Drescher, Tony Danza, Jay Leno, all in their early prime, the kind of film made as an excuse to watch them dazed passing by. Then this yellow hoodless 1957 Chevy 210 shows up sinking Greased Lightning into oblivion. Fran is born 1957, what will it be her or the Chevy (that’s easy!).
My favorite part of this movie was Jay Leno’s tiny role
Lawrence. Lawrence of Arabia. He’s an English guy, he’s come to fight the Turkish!
Love this movie. Back in the 80s, when it was in constant rotation on HBO, I taped it without the Danza/Pfeiffer scenes. So hilarious! Thanks for this HD version!
The movie hasn’t aged well. Not that it’s bad, it was just different times then. I saw it in a theater as a preview on a hot summer night when people were glad to get into the theater just for the A/C. It was a great audience bonding scene, and everybody loved the brash recklessness of the tone. It also contains the most original name in films: Newbomb Turk (Robert Wuhl, who’s great in this & an underrated stand-up comic). Looking for a classic piece of ’80s teen angst & rebellion? This is it (and Michelle Pfeiffer’s first film!).

After years I finally got around to watching. It had zero laughs in it. It’s a movie described as “zany and whacky” just not funny.
