Russian arthouse masterpiece, “Semya vurdalakov” is a strange, surreal dreamlike piece of Russian Cinema. Don’t expect vampires with fangs, biting virgin’s throats and the usual stuff that comes with the vampire genre. This is just a slow moving, atmospheric tale of a young writer who moves in with a strange, superstitious family in the Country, a family dealing with the curse of vampirism. The creepiest Vampire movie since the German “Nosferatu” with Klaus Kinski.. I hope to see more Russian Cinema show up here.

      Hi!
As a Russian, I’d like to recommend you to watch Prikosnoveniye 1992, since you’ve enjoyed Semya vurdalakov.
Prikosnovenie is a slow, creepy, low-budget horror/thriller movie.
Grim visuals, eerie atmosphere, feeling of unexpected is everywhere.

I took your advice and found a copy of “Prikosnoveniye” and really enjoyed this very sinister horror film! Thank you for the recommendation!

sounds like Russian version of Interview with a Vampire (Neil Jordan/1994) but it’s based on Tolstoi, proceed with caution or be spooked by bloody Ural virgins…

    • Ali says:

This movie is nothing like “Interview With the Vampire” or anything produced by Hollywood. It’s more like Werner Herzog’s “Nosferatu” or even the 1922 silent version…

      • Mr.G. says:

Herzog’s Nosferatu imho is the best vampire film ever made above the Murnau original though I tend to like Adjani in her next role Possession (1981) which also one of the spookiest erotic films ever made. Now from what I’ve seen RL can unearth the Dracula himself, maybe has come even with the aforementioned (tough it’s a tough call).
