A fine caper film. Thanks for The Outfit, RL!
Longwinded notes & opinions in re: The Outfit.
Ya know, I wish the producers would have considered casting the same actor/s throughout the entire series of Richard Stark’s “Parker” novels.
There could have been an entire franchise based on these gritty neo-noir stories, especially with more continuity between the actor playing the title character and NOT changing Parker’s name in every film. I don’t know if serializing these films would have helped or ruined Stark’s books, but this could have been pulled off during the late 60s – 70s. Today, not so much.
OTOH, there’s a long list of lame sequels and re-releases of previous major hits, ruining beloved film franchises in the process. Maybe serializing Stark’s stories of Parker isn’t such a good idea? I mean, why ruin a good thing?
Finally, after watching badass Lee Marvin in Point Blank (1967), I had a difficult time believing a paunchy, balding and middle-aged looking Robert Duvall could reprise the same-ish role. But, Robert Duvall is intense and believable and carries The Outfit very well. I can admit I was wrong about him :)
The other redos of Stark’s stories by various unnamed hammy actors? The less said about those pathetic films the better, I think. They sucked azz!
