These are encoded in 10bit colour, in case you were getting it all washed out. You’ll need a player that can decode the extra colour info like MPCBlack or MPV for PC viewing.

If I have my Chinese right, the audio on the Hong Kong version is:

    1. Cantonese 5.1
    2. Cantonese stereo
    3. Mandarin stereo
    4. Mandarin 5.1
    5. English stereo
    6. Joint commentary
    7. Solo commentary

Four sets of subtitles. The first is the most visible, but has so many typos (J’m for I’m, ‘Whds the..’, ‘can Ijoin’, etc etc etc) that it looks like some bad OCRing happened. I’m not sure I can tell the difference between the second and third, but the fourth is (almost?) empty.

Any chance on sharing a copy of “Project A Part II” from the 88 Films “Hong Kong Cut” Blu-ray with the audio commentary by Asian cinema experts Frank Djeng (NY Asian Film Festival) and F.J. DeSanto?

Thank you I appreciate all you efforts. Especially the added extras, such as the commentary tracks.

Looks fun. Any suggestions from the crowd on which cut works best?

A masterpiece of 80s HK action/comedy that only Jackie and crew could have pulled off.

The cover image used above is from the 2018 Eureka Blu-ray, but the rips here are from the superior 2024 88 Films release, which includes an extended cut with 9m36s of additional scenes that seem to have been exclusive to the film’s release in Taiwan (included as bonus features in the Eureka release, but separate from the main film and with lower image quality). The original cut has tighter pacing, but the extended cut includes a great spar between Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao during a CQC training session that should never have been cut for the HK theatrical release.

Compared to the Eureka release, this has more faithful and vibrant colors, greater image detail, as well as a slightly expanded frame for more visible information around the edges. The default audio track is the original mono Cantonese mix (with Mandarin in the scenes from the Taiwan cut), which I find to be essential, but there are well-done Dolby Atmos mixes included for those who prefer a cleaner, more modern sound.

The end credits have the original truncated outtakes from the HK release. The extended outtakes from the Japanese release are included on the Blu-ray as a bonus feature, but I wish they’d been appended to the film itself for seemless viewing. A minor flaw in an otherwise perfect release.

Thank you, Rarelust! Project A II (tt0092501) is also essential.

Thank you for posting this. I’ve been desiring to add this classic Jackie Chan film to my archive of them.
