Excellent package, wish we had some commentaries for these notorious features but getting them together in this quality is fantastic. A couple of observations: The first MBTS is one of those rites of passage disturbing shockers like the first ‘Faces of Death’,’A Serbian Film’, ‘Cannibal Holocaust’, etc. I’ve seen it a number of times and it’s important for being one of the first films to tackle the true story of Unit 731. Only one scene I can live without are the rats and the cat. ‘Maruta 2: Laboratory of the Devil’ is a better film than I was led to believe from reviews. A bit slow in spots but still interesting. This print, by the way, is gorgeous and helps viewing immeasurably. I have not watched ‘Maruta 3 Destroy all Evidence’ yet, I’ll give a follow-up later. Which brings us to ‘Men Behind the Sun 4’ or ‘Black Sun’ if you prefer. This is an incredible film that equals and in many ways, surpasses the 1st MBTS. Focusing on the horrifying true Nanking Massacre or Rape of Nanking, this pulls no punches. Loaded with shocking scenes, fine action and good production value… plus, it’s pretty factual. Highly recommended for the bravehearted.
