Thank you so much! Been hanging to see this (again)!
Legend! Thank you!
I concur, Ariel. Fabrice du Welz created an instant cult classic and his inspiration was mainly the cream of American horror circa 1970’s. This has a growing uneasiness from the get-go. What’s impressive is how it juggles black humor and horror without succumbing to silly horror comedy cliches. It’s seriously disturbing in a ‘Deliverance’ kind of way. What really sticks with you is the great acting of Jackie Berroyer as Bartel. Excellent character study, rich in detail for this kind of film. Speaking of great actors, always good to see Philippe Nahon from Noe’s ‘I Stand Alone’. I also recommend Fabrice du Welz’s ‘Alleluia’ (2014) also with Laurent Lucas. It’s a riveting update of the “The classic ‘Honeymoon Killers’ inspired by true events. Rarelust rules the web’s psychotronic cinema wasteland… carry on screaming!
Truly bizarre, disturbing film that holds up on repeated viewings. It manages to include many surrealistic touches and a healthy dose of black comedy to it’s 70’s American grindhouse scenario without diluting the horror. Fans of Gaspar Noe’s early films should definitely check this one out. Fantastic array of films this week, RL.
Thanks for this! HO HO HO!
