Gorgeous. Not a traditional christmas tale, and if the director hadn’t delayed shooting until it was snowing, this would undoubteldly not be the big christmas season movie in Germany and many East European countries – apparently of equal/greater status to “It’s a Wonderful Life” in the USA. This lovely movie has significant differences from what Western audiences may expect – The opening credits suggest it’s based on a folk tale by 19th century Czech writer Božena N?mcová. No idea she existed until looked that up – in fact I could only have named 3 Czech writers (Kafka, Hašek, Kundera) – so thanks RL for continuing to educate us. It’s got a lot less Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo than the Disney version!! Great extras too
