Samm Deighan misrepresents history. She does it from her Socialist-Marxist viewpoint. Such a viewpoint is, naturally, okay to have, but not to twist real-world events. It would be better if she had just stuck to discussing the movie. Also, she talks too much about other films than the Captive Heart film we are watching.
In what way does she “twist real-world events”? You need the context to appreciate the film, especially if you are from a younger generation. You also need to understand the motivations of the filmmakers at the time and in the UK in 1946 there was a Labour government with a large majority… people wanted change after the war. Socialism was popular and being put into practice with the NHS and other measures.
This is an interesting movie and I’ve long wanted to watch it with an audio commentary to learn more. Thank you.
