This movie based on a masterpiece novel of the same name written by Ukrainian author (late 19th-early 20th centuries) Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky.
This is a renowned masterpiece in the Russian-speaking world of the former USSR. It is an early Parajanov gem, and the camera work, the mood this sets are unforgettable. Quite transports you into that dead and vanished past, it does… In a way, this is the best illustration of the concept of KARMA I know.
