    It IS based on a true story (fictionalized, of course) and IS made before “In The Realm of Senses” by Oshima.

    This is not based on a true story; it is based on the explicit Japanese film, “The Realm of Sense” by Nagisa Oshima, which in turn is loosely based on Bataille’s “Story of an Eye”. Both are great works not to be missed, and I hope this one is too.
