   The film “Marfa Girl” was the last Larry Clark movie to be released to North American audiences. After his “Ken Park” movie I’m guessing distributors felt he was too unpredictable to invest in..So to see this movie here will be appreciated by fans of Clark’s controversial work. “The Smell of Us’ takes “Ken Park’s” theme of adults corrupting young people to an even more twisted level…Every adult in this movie is absolutely disgusting! Apparently the man behind the camera was acting quite disgusting as well..The main character, played by Lukas Ionseco, son of the infamous, ‘Underground’ star Eva Ionesco, walked off the set of this movie, abandoning the project after he claimed relentless sexual and verbal harassment from Larry Clark. Coincidentally Lukas’ mom Eva, wrote and directed the autobiographical “My Little Princess,” documenting her screwed up childhood and her “stage mother” that forced the girl to pose for endless nude photo spreads, her mother behind the camera, the photos being very artistic, but the 11 year old girl didn’t want any part of it. During the 70’s Eva Ionesco posed for ‘Penthouse” magazine…at 10 years old; Can you imagine that happening today? She is most well-known for the film “Maladolescenza,” (You won’t it here, for obvious reasons..) Anyway it is ironic that so many years later her young son would wind up being exploited in the exact same way…it takes a lot of character to walk away from a starring film role…I recommend seeing this movie, if only out of morbid curiosity…

   So, I’m beginning to see a pattern in Larry Clark’s work (sarcasm). Ironically, it’s hard to believe that he’ll ever top Ken Park, but that hasn’t stopped him from trying. As far as this one goes, all I’ve to say is tinkle, tinkle, little star (Diane Rouxel).
