This is a masterpiece in the row of films with the hard-boiled investigator Marlowe. I was surprised about Robert Altman as director, but then, it was the early 1970s. I also had my doubts about Elliot Gould as Philip Marlow, but he gives this character more personality than hardly any other actor in this role.
Positively in the tradition of film noirs, we get a mix of quirky characters that help stretch the simple, but effective story, with a couple of funny, sexy and thrilling moments and a bit predictable, but still captivating twist at the end.
Thanks for sharing.
Great! A good ‘bookend’ to James Garner’s ‘Marlowe’. Elliott Gould is terrific in a cynical 70’s classic
