I always wondered if Cameron actually saw this French movie or if it was just a premise that was in development that was too close to not license when they ended up coming out somewhat near each other? This movie never had a US release as far as I know and it has little presence outside of being the movie True Lies was based on. He still could have found it somehow (plus Cameron is Canadian so maybe there’s some awareness?), but it is an odd connection for a big blockbuster to be remade from this.
Oh nope I was wrong. True Lies is actually a pretty faithful adaptation in a lot of ways, including some key scenes and even some names. They more or less padded it out with multi-million dollar action scenes.
Hot dang, I was just pester-begging for this a little while ago, and RareLust actually tracked it down! I appreciate it and the site, and am looking forward to finally watching this movie.
It’s funny how this fairly low budget comedy was bought and remade by James Cameron as the explosive True Lies.
I found Cameron’s True Lies a disappointingly ridiculous film. My expectations for this are lower, so it has a fair chance to better win my liking.
