I’m trying to identify what I thought was one of the Hitchcock tv anthology episodes. Men were stranded, maybe in a shipwreck at some foggy island. They were starting to grow barnacles on their bodies, or something horrific of that nature. It was a situation vaguely reminiscent of the Japanese film “Attack of the Mushroom People”, but in this case definitely featuring Americans or Brits. Was possibly based on a noted short story, as was true for many of the AH eps. (Back when the series was initially on — or later, in syndication reruns — this episode had a promo / preview with someone unseen cackling menacingly, “You Will Be Here FOREVER !”) Looked through IMDB listing of all eps of the Hitchcock series, but did not spot it. Anyone ?

A Zippo lighter. Oh, yes, I remember this story. I read it in an old anthology back in middle school, forty years ago. It’s the kind of story that stays with a young fellow.
This was an excellent episode, one of my favorites!
The viewer also gets to see a rising star, a young Steve McQueen, starring opposite his first wife. Peter Lorre is perfectly cast as the creepy stranger.
You won’t be able to predict the ending, which is one major reason this episode is so memorable.
