Fantastic rare title from the Shaw Bros. Library, I bought the dvd many years ago from a Chinese mail order company when I first started getting into the movies of martial artist Chen Kwan Tai and collecting everything I could find with him. “King Gambler” was one of the Shaw titles that have never been made available to Western audiences, this movie started the “gambling craze” within China and because of this movie’s success, “Gambling films” became a genre, and many more gambling themed films followed. “King Gambler” is still the best of them all. Kind of like China’s answer to “Ocean’s 11” (the 1960 film with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. etc and NOT the inferior modern remake). There’s hardly any martial arts action here, but this is still an extremely cool movie.
