   So we have I/1987, II/1988 and IV1996 from the first four in the series (all by screenwriter Peter Atkins), would be great to upload III/1992 (Hell on Earth) with the Motorhead soundtrack..

   Wow. Kim Newman on the commentary, too. I didn’t realize this sequel had such a cult following. I do recall that it was the one in space and I believe the last one to get a full theatrical release. I will have to give it another look.

     Most of the cult following for Bloodlines comes from the film’s infamous troubled production. The studio hated Yaghler’s idea to do an anthology film and especially hated the opening story (the origin of the Puzzle Box) and not only ordered this segment slashed to the bone footage-wise, but refused to pay for the needed SFX for key scenes that Yaghler wanted to be the focus of the marketing (IE the film’s origin of the Cenobites).

     Yaghler had Fangoria on set for filming of the first segment, resulting in Fangoria showcasing the “original” Cenobites in several photos Yaghler let them take of the actors in said make-up/costumes to promote the film (which helped publicize the behind the scenes drama since fans who read the Fangoria coverage and saw the photos wanted to know why they were cut from the film). Yaghler also wanted to keep Pinhead out of the film until the one hour mark (due to this being what was done in the first two Hellraiser films) and wanted there to be more tension and rivalry between Pinhead and Angelique with it explicitly stated that Angelique was a more traditional demon (and not the mother of the Cenobites as originally conceived/filmed) while the Cenobites and Leviathan were upstart demons who’s methods and philosophy had changed Hell while Angelique was stuck on Earth. He also wanted a downer ending with Ramsey’s future character dying stopping Pinhead but the studio demanded Ramsey’s future character survive, and Adam “Parks and Recreations” Scott had a much smaller role which got expanded upon in the reshoots to fill in the narrative gap when the first segment got gutted.

     Yaghler ended up getting an Alan Smithee credit because of the behind the scenes drama and the reshoots by replacement directors.

     Ultimately, Bloodlines is the last “real” Hellraiser film for quite a while (at least until Revelations) and the backlash against Inferno when that film came out, helped rehab the initial negative reaction to Bloodlines as more people learned about the behind the scenes drama with the film.
