There was a lot of cheap movies created in France at this period (1940 -1944). Around 400, if I’m not wrong. Germans and Vichy’s French collaborationists wanted to untertains French population with low cost movies. Maurice Tourneur (father of Jacques Tourneur) was a brilliant silent movies maker. This talkie one is particularly bad, anyway. Lol. Far from Carné – Prévert prodigious films at the same time.
Better a ‘Faustian’ story than most similarly-themed movies.
Aha.
