Wherever MUBI got this from it either wasn’t the original print, or they copied it from an nth generation source. Look at the titles at the beginning, they’re soft as well. I’d say this is no dreamlike haze, just a watchable copy that isn’t as sharp as the original.

Nothing wrong with the quality of this print; it was common practice during the 70’s/80’s to shoot erotic films through a soft filter, casting a dreamlike haze over the imagery. Just Jaeckin used this method for his early movies…”Emmanuelle” (1974) and “Story of O” (1975) will always look soft, no matter how “hi-def” the print is…David Hamilton’s “Laura” looks like it was filmed through linoleum….Personally, when I download a movie here that turns out to be especially great, like “Sins of the Flesh,” I will buy the bluray…and buying these titles is an investment, as they don’t seem to lose their value…
