Thanks so much for this piece of folk-horror, made 3 years before The Wicker Man with the same theme, pagan Harvest Ritual.
Screenplay was by novelist John Bowen, based on the actual case of Charles Walton, whose body was found on St Valentine’s Day 1945 in Lower Quinton, Warwickshire.
(Bowen also wrote the screenplay for another Play For Today available here at RL, ‘A Photograph’)
Highly recommended.
Thanks for that! Such a pity that the original broadcast/colour-version is lost forever … I’d love to see Anchoress (1993) by
Chris Newby – so hard to come by in Europe.
