The Shaw Bros Studio produced some interesting films after the Martial Arts craze of the 70’s died out. “Men From the Gutter” is one of the finest, along with the gritty “Brothers From the Walled City” and “Murderer Pursues,” both 80’s era Shaw films.
Truly awesome slice of 1980’s CAT III action/crime thriller, featuring zero CGI and zero consideration for the whiners that bitch about “Political Correctness.” Instead we get some sublime stunt work, realistic fight scenes and adrenaline pumping action and camera work. This must have been the “Lethal Weapon” of China in it’s Day. “Men from the Gutter” is very similar to the nihilistic “Dangerous Encounters of the First Kind” from director Tsui Hark…also available here.
