In this film, Jimmy Savile introduces the world to this great music at an early point in his career — a career that would end many years later before anybody discovered he was a BBC-sponsored pedophile with literally hundreds of crimes to his credit when he finally died, including raping children at the hospitals that made up his list of charity “clientele.” He even violated those hospitalized as comatose! It was a HUGE scandal when his death a few years back brought to life news of his criminal side. For many years, he was the most beloved personage in Great Britain — he is now the most hated. What a lifetime of tragic contrasts! Don’t let that ruin the music though. The sixties created a genuine structure of legendary import — just like Jimmy Savile’s appetite for children!
Years (and years! ) ago I taped this from TCM. I’ve been looking for a copy ever since my wife recorded something over it. Just plain WOW. Many thanks!
Brilliant addition to the standard material here, When people find out that you have rare Beatles material your site will be jammed…
The Beatles footage in this film is actually very common, two live songs from a newsreel. Lots of great footage tho’.
The funny this was that the “British Invasion” was all but banned by the BBC in England. If you lived in Manchester or Kent and wanted to hear popular British groups you had to listen to German stations late at night.
