Never understood why this movie was so maligned upon it’s release. “Bolero” has everything that made the genre of “softcore/erotic” film good; excellent production values, exotic location photography, an epic, sweeping score by Elmer Bernstein, mindboggling, graphic erotic scenes, and most important, it featured the most genetically perfect female of all time (next to Dorothy Stratten), Bo Derek. It even has George Kennedy, who appears to have been drinking during filming. I think this movie flopped because most theaters refused to show it. Director John Derek flatly refused to trim the erotic scenes (thank God) so the MPAA refused to give it as rating. This was before the NC-17 rating existed so “Bolero” became the first movie to play with no rating, relegating it to those theaters with the “sticky seats” and men wearing raincoats when it wasn’t raining. I’m glad it got a blu ray release..it’s Bo Derek’s finest moment.
This guy did made some of the worst movies ever, just watch sex scenes (even though they are not hot) and skip everything else.
The movie is average, but the scenes are pretty good.
