LOVE this Masterpiece! Perfect in OMU.
I have the bluray and it is wonderful, can highly recommend it.
Thanks very much! Great, great movie, much better, in my opinion, than the 2014 Forbidden Empire/Kingdom remake. Very faithful to Gogol’s short story. Superb!
Thanks!
Is their an English dubbed version? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find it
yes its from masters of cinema Eur!eka Entert@inment uk bluray
A curious item. His two early collections “Mirgorod” (which includes “Viy”) and “Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka” put the young Nikolai Gogol on the literary map. Rather improbably, he always claimed that both collections were just traditional Ukrainian stories. But apparently the creature Viy is completely unknown from any other source surviving today. Of course Gogol was a total weirdo. His story includes some bizarre details left out of the film production, although the majority of the original story line is intact. Anyway, cool movie.
English dub? Nice! Thanks!
Commentary is with film historian/eastern European cinema expert Michael Brooke. This is the Masters of Cinema Limited Edition Blu-ray.
Fantastic! Many thanks RL!
This make me curious if you can find any quality version of a russian film called Sadko(1953).
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0046264/
Preferably the original russian version. The american version did not even translate the film and it made no sense at all. Soft subs if at all possible. Only place I found it was a bad stream version on YouTube.
Yes, Sadko would be awesome!
What a strange movie…
According to IMDB, it is well regarded.
I look forward to watch it.
It’s a classic. And based on a short story by Gogol that is even better.
many thanks!
