Excellent movie set during the Great Depression. It needs to be seen twice in order to better understand it. The director, Sydney Pollack, used some unique film tricks in the making of this film. As brutal and uncompromising as the time in which it was set, (when there was no safety net for the out of work, hungry, and homeless). People with no hope for the future with nothing to lose risk their lives in a ruthless dance contest where almost anything is allowed. For audiences 16 and up.
