Sadly, another classic 50’s Sci-Fi film gets butchered in the HD release, having the top and bottom cropped, from a 4:3 to a 16:9 aspect ratio. Another example: This Island Earth.
Not correct. The 16:9 version is the correct version that was shown in theaters, they shot in 4:3 safe to be able to air it on tv (and they also carelessly released that version on dvd), but there is no good compositional information in the 4:3 version. The blu-ray 16:9 version is the correct one in this case, in the case of this island earth I’m not so sure, haven’t seen it or looked into it in ages.

do you have an HD version of the 1.37:1 aspect ratio version? i don’t know if it was ever released on blu-ray, i only have an SD dvd rip of it.
