Happy New Year, Rarelust.
Happy New Year 2025 and Thanks for all Rarelust!
This is an early example of a misleadingly titled non-sequel, since it has no connection at all with the much more successful 1932 film “Doctor X”, apart from the basic theme of scientists turning into monsters and murdering people.
However, you do get to see Humphrey Bogart, absurdly miscast as both a scientist and a vampire, doing his best in a part he hated and tried to refuse but the studio wouldn’t let him. The film wasn’t a hit, and Bogey was never again asked to do horror or sci-fi.
Look out for Lya Lys, the co-star of Luis Buñuel’s extraordinary Surrealist masterpiece “L’Age d’Or”, in a supporting role. Hollywood tried to make her a star but never quite figured out what to do with her, and this was her second-last movie.
Happy New Yea!r

Happy New Year RL and all fellow travellers. Thanks for another year of great movies and rare finds. Thanks for this one – supposedly a sequel to Doctor X (1932) – also on RL – but not really related. Love these short extras.
