The movie is very interesting thanks to a rather refreshing plot: a man slowly drowns himself into madness, believing a conspiracy of blind people is trying to kill him. The slow maddening spiral kinda remind me of Lovecraft novels… Also the last descent-into-the-abyss scene is visually gorgeous.
However, it’s such a shame that the Blu-Ray scan is so crappy: the blacks are only a dark gray, which ruins the movie because there is so many dark scenes in it, especially when viewing it on an OLED screen.
Rarelust, I just sent you a re-encoding using DaVinci Resolve to set the dynamic range to something more sensible. Perhaps you want to upload it instead of this one?
I did what I could but the luminance grading is really nonsensical: depending on the scenes, the max light level can go anywhere from 150 to 210 (out of 255) even for what should be pure white (so 255). And “black” was indeed around 16-20 luminance instead of 0. I remapped 16-210 to 0-255 with a small bump in low-luminances to get something more acceptable (no luminance remapping S-surve that I tried were optimal. Ideally one should do this scene by scene, but this is another kind of worms!).
added your encode in post
thanks
When I first saw the poster, I thought everyone was holding lightsabers.
Another one in the Zatoichi series.
When I think Ive seen it all, a strikingly different movie arrives by parachute and proves me wrong.
I dont know if it will be good, but given its very interesting premise, it is worth checking out.
That’s a wildly interesting premise.
