This is really quite an epic – a cast of thousands – including Richard Burton as Tito, everyone’s favourite creepy Nazi Guntner Meisner, and even Anton Diffring, for about 10 seconds.
It’s all stirring, Soviet-style stuff – though clearly animal welfare wasn’t big in the Warsaw Pact – dogs actually being machine-gunned and a donkey blown up – but don’t these mere trifles put you off !
