Thanks for this nice treat, RL!
Like most people (I’m assuming, since this is a film site), I’ve yet to see a bad film starring Robert De Niro, and I’ve seen several dozens dating from the early 1970s. I think that’s pretty notable so far as his abilities.
Stanley & Iris isn’t Goodfellas, or The Godfather, et al, but it’s still a strong drama and a nice change from De Niro’s other roles.
The key to De Niro’s acting (for me) is always credibility. De Niro transforms into his characters, be it Travis Bickle, Louis Cypher, Jake LaMotta, etc. As you watch the film, you become entranced with the depth of his characters. That’s top notch acting, imo.
Thanks again, RL!
The DVD is in MGM’s “Dollar Tree” line of movies released for that chain.
thank you, dear rarelust, for my request. i love Fonda
This was the rare romantic flick that I kind of enjoyed back in the day. Fonda was still fetching and I have a soft spot for adults who struggle with reading, so it pushes some of those buttons and it’s well directed schmaltz. Pretty forgotten, too, so perfect for RL. I actually saw this theatrically.
