This ’79 film in the tradition of philosophical 1970s Soviet sci-fi (like Andrei Tarkovsky’s “Solyaris” from ’72) is probably the version with the most impact. The story of it’s production, staff and actors alone is already fascinating.
The original story is by the famous brothers Strugatsky, and their idea has been re-used several times, even in “Sphere” from 1998 (the Golden Sphere or globe which may be able to grant every wish).
> My question and request:
Is it possible to find and add “Roadside Picnic”, a 2016 version of “Stalker”? (I couldn’t verify if there is only the Pilot or 1 Season or nothing at all?)

I found this movie strangely familiar, like a repeating dream with no end, always just out of reach.
This is a good example of how a great movie can be made with much of nothing, other than a good script.
Is this the Criterion release?
can’t remember source..
Regretfully NOT 16:9, it’s obsolete 4:3 framed with huge black bands left and right to 16:9. Better look for a true 16:9 1280×720 for such a great movie,, it exists.

@Mr.G.
The original is 1.37:1 (48:35). Likewise, the restored version by Criterion is 1.37:1.
One would have to crop it to get 16:9, which is not a good idea IMO.
I have the Criterion version and it looks very good. I don’t know the quality of this one is, but it’s not “16:9” as it says in the description here as of now, that is unless you count those black bars.
Judging by the screenshot, it looks to be the proper 1.37:1, yet with black bars on the sides to make it 16:9.
one of the finest movies ever made
Absolute classic – thank you!
