Ilove Philippine cinema. Thanks
Any suggestions for films like Silip? I liked it very much.
Hmm, in spite of the good reviews I feel people should be warned about the extremely grim animal cruelty in the first few minutes.
I think the story of “Silip” is referencing some Biblical story, the animal “sacrifice” in the beginning of the film has it’s symbolic meaning..but yes, it’s an extremely graphic and appalling scene; as bad as anything from “Cannibal Holocaust.” Another Filipino movie. “Insiang” opens with a similar scene, with pigs being slaughtered. Both films are critically acclaimed though, and those scenes must be endured if you want to see these classic films.
It’s great that “Silip: Daughters of Eve” did not suffer the same fate as so many Filipino movies from the 70’s-80’s. Apparently they didn’t see the value in preserving these films, so many fantastic movies, such as the erotic masterpiece “Scorpio Nights” are lost, and can only be seen via old, decaying VHS tapes. “Silip” is another genre masterpiece, and the fact that the print survived is a miracle.
Thank you!
