Yes its a comedy. It was early work of director John Landis (Animal House, American Werewolf in London, Blues Brothers, Michael Jackson’s Thriller) and legendary creature effect master Rick Baker. You hear multiple examples of Landis’s long running inside joke “see you next Wednesday) and some very funny low budget monster movie homage humor. Keep in mind that the movie is very early work from a young director with largely inexpereinced cast, but if you can look past that its a real gem.
