Christopher Miles unfortunaterly took the scissors to his original (and masterful)125 minute film. The version posted here is his radically trimmed and somewhat reorganized “Director’s Cut”. Miles claims it is a better film as a result and I as a viewer seriously claim to differ. The original was just WONDERFUL. It had humor and joy aplenty and a rambling roughshodness that fit its subject(s). Much of its passion and exuberance are missing with this cut. And it has been somewhat censoriously cleaned-up and sanitized. (That last is interesting considering the frank nature and considerations of its subject) The original also had a wonderful coda where the disinterred urn containing Lawrence’s ashes is accidently left on the train station platform. Seek out the 125 minute version on used VHS cassette. Until then, this will have to do but it seriously pales in comparison to its much better source.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Wonderful post!
Very happy right now!
Much appreciated. D.H. Lawrence is one of the best artists of all time, as well as Ian McKelen, of course. This is a biopic I really wish to see. Thanks again!
