Good movie, I watched it at the cinema in Sydney when it first came out, and it was a big hit all over Australia and then disappeared. It’s semi-autobiographical, about growing up in an Italian family in suburban Melbourne in the 1970’s (but set in contemporary 1980’s).
Fun fact – I watched the (now rare) DVD with an Italian friend from Italy, and she was laughing at the terrible Italian being spoken by the Aussie Italian actors. She said it sounded like they learned 1960’s Italian badly from their migrant parents from Calabria and Sicily. Perhaps it’s a case of their English and Italian mixing to form a hybrid mix in pronunciation? Interesting.
