Morirai a mezzanotte is an inept attempt to make a modern Giallo (for the 1980s). The story is incredibly constructed and full of plotholes, but the worst are the utterly stupid dialogues that most of the time don’t even make sense. The camera work is technically perfectly OK, but misses the joy of playing with angles, colors, and so on, which is essential for the atmosphere of a good Giallo.
We still have the mystery murders, brutal deaths, a somewhat fitting, but not outstanding soundtrack and the weird inspector, which seems to be a must for Italian mystery crimes.
For a one-time watch OK, but far from the quality of many other films of the genre.
