This said, sadly this DVD edition has the image cropped from 4/3 to 16/9 (I had a youtube bad quaality VHS rip to compare with). Strange enough in the 80’s/90’s they did the total opposite, they cropped widescreen movies to make 4/3 (called at the time pan & scan). Now they reverse the tendency which is stil wrong.

I thought this was show it was shown in theaters? I saw more image on the left and right than in the fullscreen version.
I compared both, there’s more image on the top and bottom in the 4/3 VHS version (at least 1/3 of the total image is missing in this DVD edition). No more left/right image here. At least in every scenes I tested. Sometimes, they edit the footages, sometimes they just crop it… In this case, they just cropped it which is silly because if you want a “full screen” image in your 16/9 screen, just zoom on it… :'(
no the 4/3 (called on old TV “full screen”) has more image. This DVD edition is zoomed and cropped on the bottom and top. I compared it at several moments of the film. The DVD edition has NO more image on left and right, it has LESS image on top/bottom. There’s a VHS rip version available on Youtube, you can compare it from there, you’ll see. But unfortunately the quality there is terrible. In the 90’s and early 2000’s they cropped the widescreen movies to fit the 4/3 screens, that process was called “pan & scan”. Today and even some times earlier, they do the total opposite, they crop 4/3 movies and zoom on them to fit 16/9 screen, while those who want that could just zoom the image… Wrong and sick in every sense.
