Description: Set at the Newport jazz festival in 1958, this documentary mixes images of water and the town with performers and audience. The film progresses from day to night and from improvisational music to Gospel. It’s a concert film that suggests peace and leisure, jazz at a particular time and place.

Famous for Duke Ellington’s comeback.
RL if you also have HD copy of “Space is the Place” (1974) dir. John Coney, rare document of Sun Ra (82mins), would be awesome to upload.
PS: The film (courtesy RL, thanks!) captures only from the weekend of the 4-day long Newport 1958. Historical artefact as-is it nevertheless failed to capture Duke Ellington appearing on the first day (monumental set), Miles Davis on the second, etc. Intermittent “yachting” leisure shots no relation to Jazz but a long gone Eisenhower US era.
Space is the Place > ok
Jackson, you will love it.
Anita O’Day is to die for. Wow. And Gerry “on the Bari” Mulligan. Yes indeed.
R.L. Your range on what you bring to your site is amazing. Every taste and every genre. Much Respect.
Never seen it, never heard of it, I’m sure I’m going to love it! Thanks, RL.
