Based on Bulgakov’s novel. There could be a scene in the final: Georges floats on a river tram, accompanied by two pretty girls, but when the transport emerges from under a dark bridge, the same two policemen who interrogated Ivan the Terrible are already sitting on his sides.
This is one of a literally handful of great Soviet comedies. Obviously by Gaiday. They are not quite watchable by western standards, but even today his movies are quoted and the characters are unforgetable. Having said that, this is, imho, one of his weakest movies. Try the Diamond Arm or the Caucasian Captive – these are the best

Realy? “One of a literally handful”?:)))))))
That is not Sci Fi. It is Sci Fi comedy, slapstick comedy. Ivan The Terrible and Time Machine are the excuse for numerous gags and farce.
you know, this isn’t bad. kind of a soviet combination of benny hill and monty python minus the sexual content. the russians poke fun at themselves and there’s surprisingly no propaganda. bravo. totally worth the watch.
