For fans of this series who reside in North America this restored print of “Emmanuelle IV” will be a revelation. Cut by an astounding 11 minutes for it’s North American release on physical media, both the old “MGM” vhs version and the later “public domain” dvd’s which were just direct transfers of the 81 minute version, that version of E4 was horrible. Butchered, re-framed for a 4×3 aspect ratio, along with a ridiculous English language overdub I thought it was the worst of the series growing up. The original version is an entirely different experience, and it is totally worthy of being part of this iconic series.
One of the better sequels of Emmanuelle, with the pretty model Mia Nygren as a promising lead actress. She has the stylish look of the new decade (very symmetric facial features, short hair, sportive, slender and perky, not voluptous or naturally feminine). None of the sequels would ever match the feeling or quality of the original “Emmanuelle” with it’s dreamy and sensual 1970s mood and pictures, but some follow-ups like Emmanuelle 4 are at least beautifully photographed, too. It’s quite a waste that Mia Nygren would only be a 2nd time cast for main actress, she does a better job than most of the other Em(m)anuelles.
