  1. Ian says:

The best bit of the DVD release here was one of the extras, a Soviet wartime newsreel which goes very quickly from having a captive young German solder looking nervous to him hanging dead from a tree.

More shocking than the actual film.

  2. SERGIUS says:

Content refinement. This is not a regular Soviet army. The boy joined a partisan detachment in the occupied territory.

  3. john M says:

well it was a disturbing indictment against the nazi’s treatment of the Russians. It also showed the results after Russia turned the tide of battle which ended up being just as bad as the Nazi’s. This is a very good film.

This is one of the best films I have ever seen.

  6. Lagartija Nix says:

Possibly the most disturbing indictment against Nazi’s treatment of Russians during WWII as seen through the eyes of a Russian boy initially excited about joining the army. A poignant and powerful film that holds up well on repeated viewings. Another Excellent addition and weird scene inside RL’s growing goldmine.
