This movie is more than just a classic — it is a top tier film up in the Casablanca category – but it tackles the real heartbreak of both mental illness and the death penalty. This movie was pivotal in England to removing capital punishment, and should have launched Diana Dors career to A list, but did not really.
The real tragedy of total giving up on life, and how it must feel to know all hope is gone — is a hard sell for a movie, but her acting holds up and takes you for a dark ride.
Great movie! Proves that Diana Dors could really act. Alas, this is one of the few opportunities she had to really show her stuff.
