I have the ‘Achtung DESSERT Tigers’ VHS version – and this is truly a great movie with all the essental ingredients a Nazisploitation needs – Italian-looking Aryan SS men, endlessly exploited women, footage ripped straight out of someone else’s film (Tobruk…). There’s even a transvestite.
But best of all – the Kommandant. He steals the show with some of the best lines ever uttered on celluloid:
– ‘Ve may be an army of perverts, but ve vill still vin ze var !’
and
– ‘Vip him !’
– ‘But Sir, he’s dead’
– ‘Vip him anyway. There’s no vay of telling, ven a Jew is really dead’…
