Thank you…been a VERY long time since I last seen this.
I discovered this film and watched it with a Caucasian woman I lived with for 7 years… In hindsight, I think it was a mistake. The “milking white guilt” industry is something else! lol
Aaaanyway, RL, you frickin’ ROCK, especially for the blaxploitation cornucopia. There’s no way I could find half these films where I live.
Careful, RL, they’re cancel-happy
Who is ‘they’ ?
Commentary is with director Melvin Van Peebles in a Guardian interview conducted by broadcaster Darcus Howe at the National Film Theatre in London on August 30, 1996 (70:48 mins.)
When I FIRST saw WATERMELON MAN, I was 10 Years Old, and it made it’s Broadcast TV Premiere on CBS one Thursday Night in 1974. Been seeing it on TV for the next 12 Years until I FINALLY caught the original uncut version on VHS in 1986. By then, I was old enough to take in the message properly. I’ve been trying to find a good DVD or BD copy for an eternity, and…here we are, because, Rarelust, you ALWAYS Rock!
Thanks.
A staple on my local TV station when they used to exist.
Thanks for bringing back this rare gem.
