Description: H.G. Well’s classic novel is brought to life in this tale of alien invasion. The residents of a small town in California are excited when a flaming meteor lands in the hills. Their joy is tempered somewhat when they discover that it has passengers who are not very friendly. The movie itself is understood better when you consider that it was made at the height of the Cold War–just replace Martian with Russian.

I know this is a classic and I loved it as a kid, but re-watching it I found the first half hour or so to be really cool but then it degenerates into the destruction of cities sequence that seems to go on forever and gets very boring. I almost never say this, but the re-make was much better than the original IMO.
Thanks for the upload. I watched the 2005 version and wanted to check out the original. It was interesting to see how much the new version borrowed from the original.
Thanks!
I first WAR OF THE WORLDS on TV (around 1972–my father had me watch it with him). THEN, when it was re-issued in 1977 (on a double-feature with WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE)–in widescreen, I jumped at the chance to see it on the screen. Let me tell you: The War Machines on the big screen (with the soundtrack upped to Hi-Fi Stereo) was a sight and sound I’ll never forget. And, here we are–60 years and some change after, and THIS is Still “The Invasion Movie” (well, THIS, and TOHO’S “THE MYSTERIANS”). Folks who only know the “Tom Cruise Version” need to see The Real Deal. Thank you, Rarelust.
