The poster concentrates on Richard Pryor and he’s very good in this, but it’s the script and the performances of all the main trio plus the supporting cast that make this a classic.
Originally seen around 1980, I remembered it as being good, but not as great as it is.
I wonder how many big firms would now let their premises be used for a film that they must have known did not show the industry in a good light…
The commentary with Paul Schrader reveals lots about the making of this film – it wasn’t easy.
THANK YOU SOooooooOOOOooo much for this….
I’d like to make a special request, by any chance, has the video footage of the Star-Spangled Night for Rights in 1977 ever surfaced in full ?
Wait a minute, wait a minute….
Richard Pryor? And Harvey Keitel? And Yaphet -“let´s talk about the bonus situation”- Kotto? All in a movie from the 70s about blue collar workers? This is gold Jerry… Gold!
Just perfect! ‘Been wanting to see this for a long time. Rarelust, as always, you rock!
great Captain Beefheart and Jack Nitzsche soundtrack
Commentaries are with (1) writer/director Paul Schrader and moderator Maitland McDonagh, and (2) “Paul Schrader BFI Masterclass” 1982 National Film Theatre Lecture (106:43 mins.)
