Thank you so much for adding “Blood Couple” to this page. Fans of the cult vampire masterpiece “Ganja & Hess” really should check out this rare, VHS alternate cut of the movie. It’s fascinating to see what the distributors did to Bill Gunn’s film after they found his version to be way too strange and oblique for 1970’s grindhouse audiences. It is an entirely different film. Director Bill Gunn hated this cut so intensely that he refused to let them add it to the bluray of his film, as an extra. Rarelust has provided the opportunity to see this hard to find version.

Question; I’m wondering if you have the original, theatrical version of this movie. This was released under the title “Blood Couple” on VHS back in the day, and it’s VERY different from this directors cut. Apparently it’s like a different movie altogether. Even the director refused to include it on the Blu Ray release of “Ganja & Hess,” which is one of the most fascinating Vampire movies of all time.

  4. Ali says:

Absolutely incredible film; people back when this was released must have been speechless..

    Thanks a million.

An Over-The-Web-Long-Distance-High-Five to YOU, Rarelust, for bringing this legendary film back to life. GANJA & HESS is ANOTHER of those films that came out when I was in elementary school–and heard so much about–but couldn’t see it (because of the rating (R) ). Also, I could never get a chance to catch it in recent years, so it’s been “legendary” for me. And NOW–for the First Time (in my case), I finally get my chance. And, I won’t miss it. Thank you, Rarelust—you never cease to rock!
